THE POWER OF SCALE FOR STYLING WITH ART

The Power of Oversized Artwork: Making a Bold Statement

Oversized artwork has emerged as a powerful tool for making bold visual statements. At TRES we believe a large-scale art can instantly transform a space—elevating not only its aesthetics but also its emotional impact.

Our tips for working with oversized works:

  • Explore the spaces in your home where larger walls exist- entrance, dining, long halls, master bedroom, a rumpus or bar often provide large spans of wall.

  • Consider your ceiling height and you access - if you are in an apartment with difficult access you may need to consider work in panels so you can get them inside

  • Determine if you want a polished or deconstructed style

    • A polished space can look amazing with a chrome frame or a framed work hung on the wall.

    • For a more relaxed or eclectic vibe consider unframed works and lean them on the floor- make sure you getting enough height if its leaning (minimum 1.8m)

  • Consider palette- if you are looking at a large work the main colour will have a huge impact on your space. If you are not confident with too much colour consider the neutral works for a texture and scale injection. If you love colour- go for it!

Oversized artwork commands attention. Unlike smaller pieces that require close proximity to appreciate, a large work can be seen—and felt—from across the room. It draws the eye, anchors the space, and often becomes the defining element of a room’s design narrative. In minimalist interiors, a single piece of grand artwork can inject personality, depth, and drama without cluttering the space.

Beyond aesthetics, large-scale art has the power to shape mood and energy. A serene landscape in soft hues can create a calming focal point in a bedroom or office. Conversely, a bold, colorful abstract can energize a living room or hallway, setting a vibrant tone that reflects the homeowner’s personality. In commercial spaces, oversized artwork can communicate brand identity, create Instagram-worthy moments, and leave lasting impressions on visitors.

When art takes up an entire wall or stretches from floor to ceiling, it becomes more than styling—it becomes an experience. Viewers are drawn into its details, textures, and messages in ways smaller pieces often can’t achieve.
